Introduction to The Untangle Puzzle

Untangleis a free browser-based puzzle: drag and move points to rearrange a tangled web of lines into a crossing-free layout and reveal a clean, planar graph.

Unlike grid-based puzzles, Untangle presents you with a planar graph: a set of points (vertices) connected by straight lines (edges), initially arranged in a tangled, overlapping mess. Your goal is simple in concept but challenging in practice: reposition the points so that no lines cross.

Every puzzle is generated to be topologically solvable—meaning a crossing-free layout exists—and your task is to find it through spatial reasoning and careful dragging. The points can be moved freely anywhere (not confined to a grid), and as you drag, the connecting lines update in real time, helping you visualize progress.

Often, untangling one cluster reveals hidden crossings elsewhere, demanding iterative refinement. There’s no time pressure or scoring—just the quiet satisfaction of transforming chaos into order.

Click and drag any point to move it. Crossings are clearly visible, and when all are eliminated, the puzzle is automatically solved. You can also generate new puzzles of varying complexity with a single click.
